The watering frequency depends on the type of plant, pot size, and environment. Generally, it's best to water when the top inch of soil feels dry. Overwatering can cause root rot, so make sure the pot has drainage holes.
If your plant's leaves are yellowing, dropping, or the plant is growing leggy and sparse, it might need more light. Move it closer to a window or consider using a grow light.
Use a high-quality potting mix suitable for your specific plant type. Avoid using garden soil, as it can be too dense and may contain pests or diseases.
Most potted plants benefit from repotting every 1-2 years. Signs that a plant needs repotting include roots growing out of the drainage holes, soil drying out quickly, and stunted growth.
Isolate the affected plant to prevent the pests from spreading. Use insecticidal soap or neem oil to treat the infestation. Regularly inspect your plants to catch pest problems early.
Use a balanced, water-soluble fertiliser during the growing season (spring and summer). Follow the instructions on the fertiliser package for the correct dosage and frequency.
Many potted plants can thrive outdoors, but it's important to know your plant's specific needs. Gradually acclimate indoor plants to outdoor conditions to avoid shock.
Use clean, sharp scissors or pruning shears to remove dead, damaged, or overgrown branches. Pruning encourages new growth and keeps your plant looking its best.
Brown or crispy leaves can be a sign of underwatering, low humidity, or exposure to direct sunlight. Adjust your watering schedule, increase humidity, or move the plant to a shadier spot.
Increase humidity by misting your plants regularly, placing a humidifier nearby, or setting the pots on a tray filled with pebbles and water (ensure the pots are not sitting directly in the water).
